Public hearings on Eskom application conclude today

Eskom reduces proposed hike from 12.7 percent to 9.5 percent.

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) will on June 29 make a decision on Eskom’s selective reopener application for the third Multi-Year Price Determination.

Eskom‘s selective reopener application is for a total price increase of 25.30 percent for the 2015/16 financial year.

There’s already been an increase by 12.69 percent on tariff charges which became effective on April 1.

Of the 12.7 percent that remained, Eskom reduced it to 9.5 percent.

The 9.5 percent will be channeled into procuring diesel for gas turbines and the remaining percentage for environmental levy has been scratched off.

NERSA has been hosting public hearings at Nasrec Expo Centre – they started yesterday and conclude today at 4pm.

Head of communications Charles Hlebela said public hearings are important since views and comments are needed to help determine a better outcome.

Hlebela said: “NERSA does consider public participation, of which businesses, customers and other organisations share views.

“We’ll be making a final decision on the matter on Monday,” he said.
