Department dismisses corruption allegations

The Department of Education dismissed fraud allegations against a primary school principal in Meadowlands.

The Department of Education has dismissed fraud allegations against Tumelo Primary School’s principal due to a lack of evidence.

Parents accused the principal of tampering with the School Governing Body’s election process after she allegedly selected people who were not nominated to be on the board.

According to Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane, the district investigated the allegations and there was no evidence of wrong doing from the principal and the District Electoral Officer.

“Complainants were engaged on the matter and it was agreed that they should provide the district with any documents to support the allegations. To date, the district has not received any proof.” said Sekhonyane.

She added that SGB elections are regulated by applicable laws and that the regulations do allow for disputes to be lodged by any aggrieved party.

“The school is fully operational. The SGB is also fully operational pending any new evidence that may surface to inform the district on what corrective measures should be taken.” said Sekhonyane.

The school’s principal was unavailable for comment.
