INFOGRAPHIC: Breaking down opportunities for youth
President Jacob Zuma has encouraged the youth to empower themselves through education.
President Jacob Zuma delivered a speech on Youth Day where he compared the struggle of the youth in 1976 to the youth of this day.
“The theme takes into account the fact that while the youth of 1976 fought for freedom and the creation of a democratic state, today’s youth activism is directed towards successfully tackling the triple challenge of poverty, inequality and unemployment.,” he said.
He told youth to empower themselves through education in order to tackle the triple challenge they are facing.
The theme for this year during youth month is Youth Moving South Africa Forward.
Based on statistics from census 2011, an infographic shows the unemployment rate, educational level and poverty that youth have to face. The average age in Eldorado Park is 26.
While many initiatives have been implemented in the area, there is still a large number of unemployed youth in Eldorado Park who have to now deal with the scourge of drugs on top of poverty.
