New soccer team wins its first tournament

Protea youth celebrate their day through sport.

Glenridge Young Stars, a newly developed football club in Protea Glen won its very first tournament yesterday.

The football club which also entered the ANCYL Joe Qgabi Soccer Tournament which was a youth celebration will always remember Youth Day as their day of victory.

“This is actually our first time being in a tournament and we are so happy that we won.

“As the youth of today, this is greatest Youth Day ever for our team because not only do we commemorate the youth of 1976 but we are also celebrating our first victory as well,” said Raphael Leapile, coach of Glenridge Young Stars.

Tshepo Maokamedi, Chairperson of the  ANCYL Joe Qgabi Soccer Tournament said that “this is an annual event aimed at celebrating Youth Day through sport instead of youth wandering around the street celebrating with alcohol and other things that will not help in shaping their future”.

The tournament started on June 13, with the knock-out stages and only 10 teams made it to the finals with Glenridge Young Stars winning  2-0 against Sancho Rangers at the Protea Glen Extension Four Grounds yesterday.
