Celebrating Youth Day through sport

Models spoke against racism and xenophobia.

All roads led to the stadium in Extension  Nine yesterday for the Say No to Racism sports day.

Sport teams like volleyball, hockey, netball and soccer spent their Youth Day competing against each other.

The day was also filled  with activities like spinning and horse rides.

Desiree Oliphant, Mrs United Nations South Africa and Liesl Laurie Miss South Africa, both from Eldorado Park spoke on the importance of Ubuntu.

“I know Eldorado Park, I know that we are on the brink of making waves worldwide.

“Be a better version of yourself everyday, even in sport.

“There’s no racism in sport, no racism in education and no racism in coming from Eldorado Park,” Oliphant said.

Laurie encouraged residents to love your neighbour as yourself.

“I believe that there should be no racism in not only sport but in our country.

“No matter what we do, no matter where we go we should love our neighbour as ourselves.

“No matter if they’re from another country, they are still or family, they are still our neighbour,” Laurie said.

She also spoke against xenophobia.

She left a message for youth to be kind to each other.

Other stars like Dillan Oliphant, Jerome Du Plooy, Jason Willemse, Taahira Katz and Mr SA John Owned also joined in on festivities.

Councillor Peter Rafferty thanks all who took part in making the day a success.
