JMPD not shaken by memorandum from church

Unity Fellowship Church hands over memorandum to JMPD.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department Wayne Minnaar said they are not shaken by the memorandum submitted by Chiawelo based Unity Fellowship Church.

Minnaar said they followed every procedure when shutting down the church.

“Yes we did have the church’s members marching to our office to submit a memorandum and petition asking us to let them continue with their church practice at their Midway branch, but still we refused and the memorandum was turned down so if they want they can go to court and appeal this.

“We are here to protect residents and the City’s by-laws and no one can do as they please and not follow the by-laws,” said Minnaar.

Among the things mentioned in the memorandum, Minnaar said: “The church wants to continue with their day and night prayer services and conduct choir practices on Saturday.

“So that is against by-laws and it’s a noise pollution as most residents complained about the noise from the church.”

One of the people staying next to the church, Mpho Monasi said: “Ever since the church was closed, we are enjoying  our morning and nights as there is no one disturbing us with noise, parking cars at our gates and urinating on our walls, so I’m happy it was shut down.”
