Schools participate in spelling bee

Five pupils make it to cluster level to represent their district.

King Zwelithini Primary School hosted the finals to a spelling bee at the school on Thursday (June 4).

The spelling bee consisted of schools from Zola, Jabulani and Emndeni, where the schools competed for the title of the annual spelling bee champions.

The focus on the spelling bee was around South African history and general knowledge where pupils were asked to spell South African words relating to the main topic.

Schools that participated include Zola Senior Primary School, King Zwelithini Primary School, Luyolo Primary School, Thulani Primary School and Joy Primary School.

The spelling bee consisted of four representatives from each school and only one representative was selected to represent the cluster.

One pupil from Luyolo, one from Zola Primary, one from Thulani Primary and two from Joy Primary made it through to represent the cluster at district.

“Competition was really tough and the pupils were very well prepared that’s why we had to go on for more than six rounds,” said Naidene Sibanda who was facilitating in the spelling bee.

The district leg of the competition will take place during August and all contestants who made it to the cluster level will be representing the schools at a district level.
