Celebrating World Environment Day

People don’t only have to be responsible for the earth but become agents of change.

Today, the world is celebrating World Environment Day (WED).

The United Nations declared June 5 as the World Environment Day to deepen public awareness of the need to preserve and enhance the environment.

The theme for this year is “Seven billion dreams. One Planet. Consume with care”.

UN defines WED as the opportunity for everyone to realise not only the responsibility to care for the earth but to become agents of change.

Fikile Mabaso of COPESSA once spoke about the importance of taking care of the environment.

She said the community has tendency of vandalising parks and burning trees.

“Let’s work together and stop vandalising our property and should you see one person destroying something, don’t ignore it because it is our responsibility as the community to take care of our facilities and our environment,” said Mabaso.
