The man who is a resident of the Diepkloof Hostel was arrested following a shootout between a gang of armed men and police on Tuesday night.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said, “His body was discovered in his cell in Diepkloof.
“We are investigating the cause of death but we have called Ipid to do an investigation.”
