Street lights left on despite calls to save electricity

More than three streets in Protea Glen have lights on during the day.

While South Africa has had load shedding for the past six months, street lights in Protea Glen have not been of better use to save electricity.

The nation was advised to save electricity way back before load shedding became an everyday thing to South Africans.

City Power always advises people to switch off their lights, geysers, pools and other appliances when not using them but more than three streets in Protea Glen Extension 11 have their streets lights on during the day.

City Power spokesperson, Sol Masolo said that he is not aware of the streets lights being on during the day in Protea Glen, but they sometimes keep some street lights on during the day to reduce cable theft.

“In most areas, people steal cables so we sometimes keep the street lights on because they cannot steal the cables when the lights are on,” said Masolo.

He also said that if the area is not common of cable theft, it could be that the timers (which automatically switch off the lights during the day and on at night) are not working and if that is the case, they will get into the matter as soon as possible.
