Ward Councillor Themba Msibi accused of instructing JMPD to demolish Zimbuzini informal settlement.
Democratic Alliance PR Councillor Gary Ramaru said Johannesburg Metro Police informed Zimbuzini residents in Orlando West last week that they would be demolishing some of the shacks in the area.
He said this was apparently an instruction that came from the ANC ward Councillor Themba Msibi.
Ramaru said that Msibi’s alleged reason to destroy the shacks was to minimise the number of shacks which have increased to a total of 156 since 2009.
“It is unacceptable that the City of Johannesburg has for years failed to provide this community with basic services, and yet still feels the need to decrease the number of shacks as if any services will be provided to the reduced number of people in any case,” said Ramaru.
Ward Councillor Themba Msibi said he has never instructed anyone to demolish Zimbuzini informal settlement.
“I have never instructed anything of this sort. I don’t know where the DA gets its information from,” said Msibi.
No shacks have been demolished in Zimbuzini informal settlement this according to Msibi.
