Organisers believe they will break the current record with 2000 onboard already.

As a red ribbon is a symbol of awareness and support for those affected by HIV/Aids and pink for cancer, the yellow ribbon is said to be symbolic for drug awareness.

An attempt to break the current record of passing a hula hoop through a human chain will be done on June 24.

The current record, according to Guinness World Record, consists of 564 participants.

Sanca attempts to break this record by exceeding 1000 people dressed in yellow by including pupils from schools in Lensia, Eldorado Park and Soweto.

They already have 2000 participants on board.

The human chain represents partnerships and teamwork required to protect youth from drug abuse.

The event is also based around International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held annually on June 26.

Terrence Makananisa from Sanca said there should be unity in fighting drugs.

“We should have unity like drug dealers do.

“They get supplies from each other if they run out of stock,” Makananisa said.

“Through the human chain we are saying hands off our children, schools and communities,” anti drug activist Dereleen James said.

She encourages anybody to get involved in the event in anyway.
