Residents must pay: Eskom

Protesters say they will not back down until prepaid electricity is done away with.

Eskom has told residents to obey the law and pay their electricity bills.

This following the three day protest in Orlando West Ward 39 over prepaid electricity installation.

Residents claimed that they cannot afford to pay the billing of the prepaid system and would rather pay a low flat rate.

Bandile Jack from Eskom said that the prepaid system has worked well in many areas.

Residents vow that they will not stop protesting until their flat rate request is met.

“I earn R1400, how can I pay R400 for electricity and still buy food and everything else I need to pay for every month? This prepaid electricity is killing us,’ said Thabiso Aphane.
