A long walk for the vulnerable

Community activist walks for seven hours to raise funds.

The much anticipated fund raising walk by Reverend Tinyiko Nyathi took place on Thursday.

Nyathi from the Tihrani Sebenzani Support Group walked from his home in Pimville to Sandton in a bid to raise funds for his organisation’s community based projects.

The Deutsche Bank, Alexander Forbes and the Nedbank Foundation were targeted by Nyathi and his organisation for donations.

Nyathi braved the cold morning weather as he made his way through Soweto to join the M1 highway which took him to Sandton.

His journey which started at six in the morning took seven hours to get to his destination.

“I was very tired when I arrived, I couldn’t even walk properly,” said Nyathi.

Despite being tired the reverend was happy to take on such a challenge.

He started at the Deutche Bank where he left his proposal and went on to Nedbank and Alexander Forbes to do the same.

Nyathi said all three organisations were expecting him, however, it is not clear at this stage when they are going to revert to him.

Funds raised will be used to fund various projects by Nyathi’s organisations.

Projects include training the youth who will work towards helping victims of domestic violence and alleviating poverty.
