Curbing unemployment through community development

Unemployed residents have been hired to work on a three month-long project to upgrade the park.

The park at Meadowlands Zone Seven is currently undergoing developments to improve the park’s facilities and approximately 30 residents have been employed to work on the three-month long project by City Parks.

Ward Councillor Norman Ngwedzeni said the upgrading and construction of the park has been a long-awaited task.

“It’s a beneficial improvement to the community, especially because residents were employed to be part of it.

“The children will play in a secure, child friendly environment while the elderly will be able to rest,” said Ngwedzeni.

Community Liaison Officer (CLO) Dumisani Sithole thanks the councillor for his efforts in working towards the upgrading of the park and the support from residents.

“There were challenges at the beginning of the project as other residents attempted to stop the construction. The councillor and elders came to the rescue.” said Sithole.

He encouraged residents to get involved in the Jozi@Work programme and register their companies to benefit by getting contracts to work in their communities.
