Hard times during lights out

Local businesses suffer as they are forced to shut their doors during load shedding.

Shops at Ndofaya Mall closed their doors during load-shedding as they had no generators to back-up their systems.

“I have to go inside Shoprite to withdraw money because the ATMs are not working. This is not the first time the mall is without electricity.” said Lufuno Mtombeni, a resident from Zone Two.

“The electricity cut-off is an inconvenience to us. Something must be done about it.”

Loadshedding is due to Eskom’s inability to meet customers’ electricity demand and technical problems.

The schedule changes between stages one to three, with each increasing the number of megawatts being cut off.

Different Zones in Meadowlands experience the cut-off at different times as Eskom rotates and sheds the load in a planned and controlled manner to keep the system stable.
