History of DOCC

Donaldson Orlando Community Centre now a heritage site.

Donaldson Orlando Community Centre (DOCC) now known as YMCA was originally funded by the Donaldson Trust, later by different organisations and trusts and run by people who live in Soweto.

It was used for many activities including boxing in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The late former President Nelson Mandela trained in the DOCC building.

The DOCC Hall was always busy with dancing, musical presentations and performances by famous musicians such as Miriam Makeba and Dolly Rathebe.

DOCC was also a venue for political meetings. The youth of 1976 used DOCC to plan the 1976 march.

It  is now declared a heritage site.
