The police are warning the community about the increase of car hijacking cases in Soweto.
A lot of people are reported hijacked when parked on pavements next to their houses.
People are warned not to sit in their cars chatting at night because that makes them to be victims of hijacking and robberies.
The police said that others are even hijacked on their driveway.
“Criminals will follow you until you reach your house.
“If you see someone following you suspiciously, drive to the nearest police station to ask sector police to help you or call your nearby friend and neighbour to distract the criminal following you,” said Protea SAPS communications officer Vincent Mashiteng.
Protea Glen and Eldorado have the highest hijacking reports and people are strongly advised to be aware of the hijackers and avoid drinking alone at night.
“Also avoid driving in dark or not well lit places as there are no specific areas where these hijackings occur,”said Mashiteng.
