‘I am a proud citizen of Eldorado Park’

Laurie thanked residents from Eldos for showing everyone that it is a community of love, respect, honour and Ubuntu.

Last year April Liesl Laurie was on holiday in Durban, this year she is Miss South Africa and has to get used to early mornings.

Laurie paraded through Klipspruit, Pimville, Eldorado Park and Freedom Park on Sunday, greeting adoring fans lined in the streets.

“Thank you for coming out to support me, I know the weather is not the greatest (today) but I salute you for showing everyone that Eldorado Park is a community of ubuntu, love, respect and honour,” Laurie said.

Last year she would, when sending messages to her friends and family, end it with ‘Liesl Laurie, Miss South Africa’ as a prophecy over her life.

This year Laurie is known across the country as Miss South Africa 2015.

“I am a proud citizen of Eldorado Park,” she told fans.

When the procession entered the Main Road Laurie was in tears, overwhelmed by supporters.

“She didn’t expect the response when we turned into the Main Road, it was then that she realised what was happening,” Glisson Niekerk, media liaison for the event said.

Fans showed their support on social media too.

Romeo Visser said on facebook “We are proud of you Liesl well done. Your achievement gave hope to many an(d) inspired our youngsters.

“Our Miss Eldos, Miss SA”.

Tyra Viola Taylor posted “It was such an honour to see someone so awesome and beautiful she has indeed made us proud.” while Pocahontas @Nicky_TTimm tweeted: @Liesl_L you’re an inspiration thank you.

Downpours didn’t deter supporters, they waited to get a glimpse of the beauty queen.

The procession started from Laurie’s grandmother’s house where she exited the home on a red carpet, ending the day at the Extension Nine Stadium meeting and addressing the crowd.
