Crash claims lives

An accident at the Main Road left three children dead on Saturday evening.

Three children (six, eight and 11-years-old) died and two others were critically injured in a collision between two cars on Main Street in Eldorado Park on Saturday evening.

When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene they found two children, believed to be under 10 years of age, trapped in one of the vehicles.

Unfortunately they had succumbed to their injuries.

One child believed to be 12-years-old and another believed to be two-years-old sustained critical injuries.

They were provided with advanced life support treatment and transported to hospital.

Three other patients were also treated for minor to serious injuries and transported to hospital.

The exact cause of the collision is unknown but witnesses say the driver of a BMW was speeding.

“The other car wanted to turn right from the Main Road.

“A BMW was speeding down the Main Road and bumped into the car,” Arndene Alaard said.

There are also allegations that the driver who allegedly drove the BMW at the time of the accident swapped places with another woman, giving an impression that she had been driving.

“Witnesses say the occupants of the BMW also discarded the alcohol that was in the car,” Alaard said.

She said the accident could’ve been prevented.

“People drive on the Main Road as if it is a race course and because of that innocent lives were lost and a family is left with a void,” Alaard said.

She says the CPF strongly condemns reckless driving.

Residents from Goud Street flats, where the family resides, laid flowers and prayed at the scene on Sunday.

Passing motorists stopped to pay their respects.

“Our community is saddened by this accident,” Alaard said.
