Faith groups concerned with crime

Prayer service unites law enforcement officers and churches.

Various faith groups gathered at the Moroka Police Station Hall for a church prayer service.

The event was hosted by the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and supported by the Moroka police.

These different churches that were invited prayed against crime, drug abuse, the youth and the CPF and police partnership.

The men and women from the different churches also enjoyed themselves in song and shared scripture readings.

Chairperson of the CPF Winnie Moloi said they invited various churches and those that came included the Swiss Mission and Roman Catholic Churches from the four sectors.

She said the plan was to pray especially against abuse.

A lot of things happen in our churches and homes so we want people to feel free to report crime as we get robbed by not just criminals but our children too who are taking drugs.

“Our children also don’t listen to us as adults and abuse their rights, hence we need to pray for these issues and work together.

“The churches that were present asked for this to continue monthly so we will meet and talk further about it,” Moloi said.

She said in the near future they also want to involve liquor traders and school principals to such initiatives.
