Youth optimistic about future after checking in to safe house

The teeanager who voluntarily checked himself in is now looking forward to his future.

For the first week since its inception, the safe house has taken in three clients.

The safe house was launched by No More Victims last Sunday for those using drugs and alcohol.

*Kegan Naidoo checked in voluntarily on Monday after hearing about the services offered at the house.

“I had no place to go and I wanted to give myself a chance at life,” the 17-year-old said.

His expectations were that the environment would be harsh and claustrophobic but has only been exposed to love.

“This is a place where I know I can be loved, it is filled with love and care,” said Naidoo.

The house is filled with words of encouragement and positivity.

He said the withdrawal symptoms aren’t bad, he now eats and sleeps a lot.

Felicity January, a house mother, said they work with social workers who refer clients to rehab and counselling.

Naidoo said the house mothers make the journey to recovery easier.

“They make me feel like I belong, we have a wonderful relationship,” said Naidoo.

He is now focusing on his future and forgetting his past.

“With the help of others, I know I will achieve,” Naidoo said.
