New road construction in Jabulani

CBD development goes into second phase to link routes and ease congestion.

The Transit Oriented Development project has entered into its second phase under the Jabulani Central Business District (CBD) development.

The second phase is concerned with developing a road that links Bolani Road and Koma Road with the aim of easing traffic congestion in Bolani Road.

Considering that in most cases both consumers and commuters share the same road (Bolani Road between Jabulani Hostel and Jabulanni Mall), the aim of the new road is to allow commuters to access Koma Road without having to drive through traffic congestion.

Gorge Moroka is the spokesperson under the project and he describes the road as a 900 meter long stretch of tar which will start just after Jabulani Hostel.

“There will be a traffic circle right after the Hostel which will link into the new road.

“The route will continue from there and go right behind the construction camp site and will join the current route at Nhlanzani Station.

“It will then continue from there and go behind the old Jabulani Stadium and pass behind the theatre and mall, “Moroka said.

According to him, the route will end between the Utility and Billing Centre and the shops opposite the centre.

Baba Vilakazi is the head of Ultrasonic Express which is the main contractor and he says that the project started late in February and is due to last for five months, estimated to end in around June.
