Using grant money in lolly lounges
Mother allegedly forced to use grant money to support habits in a lolly lounge.
A husband and father feels like he is fighting a losing battle to get his wife to return home.
His wife has been at the drug den (commonly referred to as a lolly lounge) for almost seven months.
The couple has four children together, the youngest is two-years-old.
“Our children know what is going on and it is affecting them.
“They are building up anger towards their mother,” Jacobs said.
He lost his job because he had nobody to take care of the children while he was at work.
Jacobs alleges that he was assaulted by people in the lolly lounge when he tried to fetch his wife.
“We have four children together, I can’t just leave her,” said Jacobs.
He said that the place where the lolly lounge is, is a house similar to a mosque.
Jacobs also alleges that he receives no help from police.
“He should open a case of assault and the wife should open a case of intimidation if she’s saying that she is forced to use grant money.
“If he doesn’t get help at the charge office, he must see the station commander,” Captain Phillemon Khorombi said.
He also advices Jacobs to take the matter up with the department of social development.
Jacobs is also advised to report the matter at the rent office where the card will be stopped.
Using grant money for other than what it is intended for is condemned and affected families should report it.
When going to the rent office to request the card to be closed, take your ID and affidavit with, stating the situation.
The card will be closed and a new one will be issued the same day but money will be available after three working days.
