Moroka police warn on hijacking increase

Police urge motorists to be vigilant in the Mapetla, Molapo and White City areas.

The Moroka police are warning residents to be on the lookout for two to three men that are targeting couples that sit inside their car at night, by taking their cars and using them to perform other crimes in the area.

Moroka’s communication officer John Serala said these attackers point the victims with a firearm and order the male victim to the boot of the car while the female is ordered to go to the back seat.

“The suspects then drive off and while on their way, they will commit other robberies using the victim’s car to take other peoples cell phones and cash on the streets.

“Afterwards the suspects will drive and drop off the victims of the car at an open space and the car, then they and throw away the car key.

“The men inform the victims though on where to find the car key and the car will not be stolen,” Serala said.

These various hijacking cases have been taking place at Mapetla, Molapo and White City.

A lot of these cases have been open since last year October and in all cases none of the cars have been taken.

Serala said residents are encouraged to be aware when parking their cars outside the gates of their home and that they should be vigilant on the streets.
