Today marks as 25 years since Mandela’s released from prison

ANC founding president was also born and died on this day.

Today marks 25 years since Nelson Mandela was released from prison.

On this day, the late father of the nation, was released from Pollsmoor Prison after he spent 18 of his 27 imprisonment years in Robben Island.

Mandela was among the freedom fighters like Oliver Tambo, Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki and others who fought for freedom during the liberation struggle.

After he was released from prison, he then became the first black president in South Africa after black people were finally allowed to vote for the first time in 1994.

Mandela served only one term in the presidency and he later died on December 5, 2013.

Also on this day, the African National Congress (ANC) founding president, John Langalibalele Dube was born and also died on the same date.

Dube was born in 1871 and died in 1946 in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
