Stage one load shedding to be implemented today

Power cuts can end early if consumers use electricity in moderation.

Power utility Eskom has confirmed that they will be launching stage one load shedding today.

This means that the national load will have to be reduced by 1000MW.

It will take place from 10:00am to 10:00pm.

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Pasiwe said “The system is severely constrained. Therefore we have had to implement stage one load shedding.”

He added that power cuts can end early if consumers use electricity in moderation.

The power network fell under pressure following a shutdown of one of Koeberg’s units on Monday due to a technical fault.

A statement by Eskom said the unit will have to be shut down for four months for maintenance.
