Church honours pupils and schools

Daniel du Preez and Rosanna Ibrahim received awards for top achievers.

Top pupils and schools from the Johannesburg South region were honoured by Crystal Ministries on Sunday.

Chief director for the region, Moss Nkonyane said schools from the Johannesburg South region under-performed but have increased its pass rate since 2013.

“Johannesburg was doing very well but through efforts in 2013, we improved by 8% bringing the pass rate to 84.6%.

“In 2014 we improved to 87% putting the region in fourth place in the province and fifth in the country,” Nkonyane said.

He challenged schools to raise the pass rate.

Darren August, author of A Teacher Changed My Life spoke on the important role that teachers play in the lives of children.

“Who doesn’t have a teacher who had an impact on your life?

“My destiny was defined in Grade Two by my teacher who said I have the ability to speak in public,” August said.

Schools from Eldorado Park that were awarded were Silver Oaks High School, Missouri High School, Willow Crescent High School, Lancea Vale High School and Klipspruit High School.

Daniel du Preez from Mondeor High School and Rosanna Ibrahim from Willowmead High School received awards for top achievers.
