It was a bitter-sweet moment yesterday as new pupils set out to start their first day of school.
Some of the first-time Grade R pupils at Vukani Primary School were excited for the beginning of their education while for others, it was a scary moment which led to tears and them clinging onto their parents.
As assembly started, most of the children seemed to enjoy the singing while for others there were floods of tears as they finally realised they were going to spend the entire day surrounded by new faces.
Teachers however, comforted the pupils, reassuring them that they were in safe hands and moments later the pupils were sent to their classes and seemed to be in a better mood as they settled in.
