10-year-old boy dies after drowning

Parents urged to monitor children when playing.

At around 10am on December 5, a 10-year-old boy died after drowning in an open space between Protea Glen extension 11 and 12.

The deceased boy was swimming in a four meter wide hole caused by a water pipe leakage underground.

He was with his three friends of the same age when he drowned.

His friends rushed and called a man who was passing by but he discovered that the water hole was too deep and he then called the police.

All role players were summoned including divers who found the boy dead.

The boy’s parents were both at work when the incident happened and the police would like to appeal to the community to stop children from playing in unsafe places and monitor them at all times.
