Post office strike, nightmare for students

Students must follow up their applications by phone.

The education department is urging students who have applied to universities to follow up their applications by phone given the ongoing post office strike.

The department says the institutions don’t have enough space as it is, and are now frantically trying to sort out next year’s enrolments under extra pressure.

The department’s Angela van Staden said: “This is a very unfortunate situation. We have picked up a lot of complaints from our students, but also from universities because they didn’t get their applications through.”

Van Staden also says a new programme implemented two years ago is helping redirect those students who are applying to universities, but don’t qualify to be there.
