Last day for tax returns

SARS says it’s the last day for citizens to make their submissions.

The South African Revenue Services (SARS) says it’s pleased more South Africans have made their submissions.

Those who are yet to file their tax returns have just less than 24 hours to do so before the deadline for the 2014 tax season closes.

Sars says so far almost 4 million people have declared their income tax for the current period.

Spokesperson Marika Muller says citizens however, still have a tendency of leaving their submissions to the last minute, and she says this puts immense pressure on their branches and call centers.

“The numbers are really spiking which is good because people are committed to paying their taxes, but it also does mean that queues at the branches are going to get quite long. Sars contact center is going to have a longer holding time. Taxpayers are going to need to be a little patient.”
