Jeff Radebe to deliver the inaugural Stanley Nkosi Memorial Lecture

Stan Nqobizizwe Nkosi believed in justice and equality for all.

The Minister in the Presidency and member of the National Executive of the ANC, Jeff Radebe will deliver the Inaugural Stanley Nkosi Memorial Lecture on November 20 at the Grace Bible Church, Soweto.

The Theme for the Inaugural lecture is: “Celebrating 20 years of Democracy and Unity, Preserving our Heritage”- Challenges and Prospects.

The lecture is organised by the Stanley & Daphne Nkosi Foundation in partnership with Each One Teach One Foundation.

Minister Radebe was a friend, comrade and fellow prisoner in Robben Island of the late Stanley Nkosi and currently serves as a Minister in the Presidency, was part of the first generation of Ministers post democracy in 1994, serving in the cabinet of the late President Nelson Mandela.

This year marks six years since the passing of Stan Nqobizizwe Nkosi, who believed in justice and equality for all.

In his youth he joined the ANC underground operatives structures and he trained in Swaziland, in the use of explosives.

Nkosi’s participation in the underground movement was influenced by the history of Africans, in particular black people in their attempt to affect meaningful change and to establish a just society.

Nkosi fought the apartheid regime with the aim of building a non-racial, non-sexist and classless society that promotes the dignity and recognises the rights of all.

Nkosi was subsequently detained in 1976 and charged with participating in underground activities of the banned ANC.  He was later sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on Robben Island.

He famously said during mitigation of sentence, “I honestly and sincerely believe in legality…But when the laws have, as their prime aim, the protection and promotion of the interest of the few…I shall forever work towards the destruction of those laws until justice prevails.”

The foundations hope to reinvigorate the youth of today and propel them to a vision and mission that they will be able to take up and build upon. The focus of the lecture is to educate and empower the youth of today.
