A newly Democratic Alliance Public Relations councillor has been allocated in three wards in Protea.
Makatisane Papo has been appointed as the PR councillor for ward 13, 14 and 16.
He said that he is looking forward to working together with other councillors in resolving community issues and to bring an element of responsibility, accountability and transparency in monitoring service delivery issues.
“I strongly believe that sharing and updating community members with correct council related matters empowers them to be active community activists and be able to take responsibility in governing their respective areas, than coming to them only during elections.
“As public representative, I am no longer of myself but a public figure, meaning every resident of Protea is my client and must be treated with respect he/she deserves.
“Soweto is one of the historic and biggest townships in South Africa and as councillors we should live to the expectation of residents of Protea and put their interests above ours,” said Papo.
He also said that because councillors are first line of hope to the local residents, it’s very critical to maintain that relationship in order to yield positive results and so that residents can trust them since they are representing their interests at relevant platforms.
