Taxi strike causes minor disruptions to matric exams

Gauteng Department of Education monitoring situation on today's exams.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has reported that today’s taxi strike which left thousands of commuters stranded, has not completely disrupted the matric papers which are being written today.

Pupils are writing their agricultural sciences paper two this morning while the second group will write the history paper two in the afternoon.

Department spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane says: “We have not received any reports of any major disruptions at our examination centres or of pupils not arriving to write their morning exam.

“There were however, pupils that arrived late due to transportation problems.”

Sekhonyane says they will only hear later on how the afternoon paper will go.

“As the GDE we had told pupils that if they were to experience any problems, they should communicate with their schools staff so we could provide transport for them, but there was no need in the end,” she says.
