Making a living by helping motorists

Unemployment is not the end of the road.

Two best friends, Tshepo Lekaota and Xolile Majaevane are unemployed and struggle to make a living.

However, their circumstances did not stop them from generating an income.

The two fix gravel roads which are regularly used by motorists.

They patch up potholes and uneven surfaces.

For Lekaota and Majaevane this is the only way to put food on the table.

According to Majaevane, generous motorists usually give a few coins to them when driving past.

“We share the money and buy food for our families. The cash really isn’t enough and as a bread winner in the family its stressful failing to provide,” he said.

Lekaota said they currently work long hours since the roads have been seriously eroded by the rain.

They both work seven days a week and are grateful for the little they get.
