Putting a stop to violation of pupils by teachers

Education department works towards keeping pupils safe.

The Department of Basic Education has said that it wants action taken against teachers who are sexually violating pupils.

As a result the department has urged the South African Council of Educators (SACE) to make sure that teachers who give parents money in exchange for sexual activities with pupils face the law.

The department’s spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga said yesterday that they are urging the SACE to do all it can to ensure that if a teacher is implicated in such a case, they must be dealt with severely.

He said that they cannot afford a situation where pupils are put at risk because of teachers, hence for this reason, what must weigh more is the interest of the child as they are the victim.
