Soweto Derby postponed

South Africa’s biggest soccer match has been postponed after the death of Senzo Meyiwa.

The biggest match on the South African football calendar, the Soweto Derby, has been postponed following the shock death of Bafana Bafana skipper Senzo Meyiwa.

The tragic death of the Orlando Pirates goalie and captain has left the traditional match between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in limbo, but yesterday the PSL moved swiftly to reschedule the match, which was initially set for Saturday.

“The match will not happen on Saturday out of respect for Senzo.

“That’s the right thing to do.

“We received a request from Orlando Pirates this morning to have a postponement of this weekend’s fixture and this request has been granted by the league,” said De Villiers on Monday, also confirming that sponsor Absa also gave its consent to the postponement.
