Gauteng EMS strike called off

Gauteng Department of Health and organised labour reach an agreement.

The strike by Gauteng Emergency Medical Services has ended, after the Gauteng Department of Health and organised labour reached an agreement on Friday.

Parties have agreed that employees will report back to work immediately.

According to reports, almost 1000 Emergency Medical Services employees went on strike on Monday demanding better working conditions and overtime payments.

The provincial department on Friday obtained an urgent court interdict barring employees on strike from directly or indirectly threatening, assaulting, intimidating or committing any criminal acts.

Departmental spokesperson, Prince Hamnca, said: “The department is happy that the strike is finally over and emergency personnel can continue to render healthcare services to the citizens of Gauteng.”  – SAnews.gov.za
