Parents urged to support next's years SGB elections.

The Department of Basic Education has officially announced dates for next year’s School Governing Body (SGB) elections.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekgo made this announcement last week, saying that this process will take place between 6 to 28 March.

It will be done at over 24 000 polling stations which are public schools and from there, over 250 000 parents will be elected to serve in school governance.

“The minister encourages all parents to support these elections by either standing as candidates or by participating as voters because without parental and community support, education can never be a societal issue that is imagined by the government.

“The government has also entrusted SGBs with policies, finances and all other education resources bring changes, constitutional values and academic excellence in public schools.

“This means all parties involved including teachers, support staff, pupils and parents are expected to work together with government to turn schools into thriving centre of excellence,” the department said.
