Mother gives birth on hospital staircase

Couple complain of poor service from hospital.

Lillian Msomi gave birth on Rahima Moosa Hospital staircase yesterday morning after feeling abdominal pains for hours.

Baska Msomi, her husband said: “What bothers me the most is that she was at the hospital for most of the day and they just sent her back home.”

The couple was told to go back home but only an hour at home she started complaining again of the abdominal pains.

“We were off to the hospital again but this time we didn’t make it into the hospital,” said Baska.

When Lillian got out of the car, she was in labour and tried to get help from security and nurses on duty, but her cries fell on deaf ears.

“The security guards told us that we should rush her into causality but she could barely walk,” said Baska.

Eyewitnesses have said that the security could have been more proactive.

It is said that only after she gave birth did the nurses come rushing.

Witnesses said this could have been avoided if staff was quicker to attend to emergencies.

“Staff and nurses could be more proactive,” said Baska.

He asked: “What if my wife had a complicated birth?”

“I am just happy that both of them are healthy and okay, thank you God,” said a proud father.

The hospital promised to reply to questions sent to them by end of business today.
