Taking services to the people

The organisation will move into other parts of Eldos.

Residents of Kliptown, on Tuesday, got free testing and counselling when Mo-Afrika Ithlokomele went through the community.

“We mobilise ourselves because there are a lot of people who cannot afford to catch a taxi to clinics, there are also elderly people who can’t get to places where testing is done,” Thabo Mametse said.

The team conducted pre and post counselling for residents and educated them on Tuberculosis and Sexually Transmitted Infections.

“People can’t be tested before counselling because the results are immediate and it may come back as HIV positive.

“We talk to them about living a healthy lifestyle and how to accept the results,” Mametse said.

He said it is important for people to understand that being HIV positive isn’t a death sentence.

Mo-Afrika Ithlokomele also goes to school where they talk on crime prevention and awareness.
