After more than a month of frustrating mail delivery disruptions, the South African Post Office (Sapo) is warning the strike by its workers is likely to take longer than expected to resolve.
Workers have been on strike for several weeks now, demanding salary hikes and permanent posts.
About 37 branches in and around Johannesburg have been affected by the strike including Braamfontein, Sebokeng, Germiston and Honeydew.
The strike has left several businesses, universities and Gauteng residents in the lurch with lengthy delays in mail delivery.
There have also been reports of striking workers intimidating colleagues who refuse to join the stay-away.
Post Office spokesperson Lungile Lose said: “The strike is still ongoing.
“It is not possible to estimate when the strike is going to end.
“We’re doing the best we can to end it.”
The Post Office is informing customers via Twitter and Facebook of the areas that have been affected.
Sapo says these branches have been closed for safety reasons following intimidation and threats of violence.
