Operation Gcin’amanzi back on track

Infrastructure renewal programme commences in Orlando.

Operation Gcin’amanzi has commenced in some parts of Orlando, this is according to ward 30 councillor Sechaba Khumalo.

Operation Gcin’amanzi is part of the overall infrastructure renewal programme that will be running across the City.

It includes innovative technology that will eventually be included in all new meter installations.

The process will see the completion of all mains replacements, leak detection and retrofitting, replacing of wasteful and damaged devices as well as the installation, upgrade and repair of water meters.

Residents are urged to be on the lookout for Joburg Water representatives that will be installing the water metres and also checking for leakages.

Pensioners, unemployed residents and residents earning less than R2500 can register for the indigent subsidy in order to get assistance from the municipality.

Each household will receive six kiloliters of water per month and after they have consumed  more than that they will then have to pay for the water they consume.

Khumalo explained that landlords who have tenants living in their yards should register their tenants in order for them to also receive the six kiloliters of water monthly.

In order to register for the indigent subsidy, residents need to bring their green bar-coded South African Identity Document (ID), their latest statement of municipal accounts and a proof of income if employed.
