Leratong Primary pupil wins maths competition

Sibekol rewarded for her efforts in mathematics.

Karabelo Sibeko a Grade 7 pupil from Leratong Primary School in Orlando East came top at the Horizon Mathematics Competition which was held at AB Xuma Primary School.

The competition was entered by all top mathematics primary school pupils in Orlando.

Hassie Mtsala a Grade 7 mathematics teacher said that when the school had to choose a pupil to represent them in the competition she did not think twice about entering Sibeko.

“She is our best mathematics pupil, she works very hard and always asks questions when she does not understand. Mathematics is all about practice and Karabelo always practices her mathematics,” she said.

Sibeko attends extra maths lessons every Saturday without fail.

“I am so pleased to have won the Horizon Mathematics Competition. It has proven to me that had work really does pay off. I love maths and I always make sure that I practice it and I always ask when I am not certain about something,” said Sibeko.

The main price of the competition was a bicycle and she also got a gold medal for her achievement.

“I would like to urge other pupils to work hard and not to be intimidated by maths. All it needs is practice and dedication,” she said.
