Residents demand bridge to be closed

Residents sick and tired of crime happening at the Red Bridge.

Residents gathered today at the Red Bridge in Mzimhlophe protesting that the bridge must be closed off as many crimes are committed there.

Residents say that they are sick and tired of being victims of crime.

Provincial spokesperson of the United Residential Front Thandi Ramalekane said that residents have been complaining about the bridge for more than eight years but nothing has been done.

“Our children are robbed of their cellphones while walking on this bridge. Nyaope boys hide under the bridge and grab young school girls as they are crossing the bridge. We want this bridge to be closed,” she said.

Not all  residents agreed that  the bridge should be closed.

Lebo Mthembu a resident said that crime is a problem in the area and removing the bridge is not the solution.

” We use the bridge on a daily, our children use it when they go to school. So if they remove it how will our children get to school,” she said.
