Crime on foreign nationals on spotlight

Foreign nationals must be protected.

Business robberies around the Moroka area have come under the spotlight following recent incidents where shops owned by foreign nationals were targeted.

Moroka Police Station communications officer John Serala said they are keeping a sharp eye on criminals targeting foreign nationals.

“We are aware that there is a new method that the criminals use to target and rob shops owned by foreign nationals.

“There are four to six male suspects who wear sports track suits and are on foot and carry school bags where they put the stolen goods.

“One of them will enter the shop and buy a 12,5 kg bag of maize meal and when the owner opens the burglar proofing to hand over the maize meal, the other suspects will approach and point the firearm at the owner and rob the business then run away.”

Serala said “We want shop owners to be aware of these gangs and immediately when they suspect anything, they should contact their nearest sector vehicle which is on the street 24/7.”

Serala said that the victims of this crime are mostly foreign nationals.

“Anyone with the information that can lead to the arrest of this group can call the sector manager at their sectors, sector cars and residents are warned not to approach the suspects as they are deemed to be armed and dangerous.”
