Joburg 10 Plus improves service delivery

Officials deployed on the ground to resolve issues.

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the Joburg 10 Plus (ward-based policing) has improved service delivery ever since its implementation in 2012.

The programme brought metro police officers nearer to the people because these officers work in the community each day.

Their work is to monitor and report all levels of delivery of services in communities they’ve been deployed in.

The programme encompasses of various city departments such as City Parks, Pikitup, City Power and others.

Though in some meetings residents raised concerns about the programme, Minnaar said their department is yet to receive any complaints from the public pertaining to its work.

JMPD police visibility was recently questioned by some residents in a public meeting held in Bramfischer.

“Councillors maybe are the ones who are finding obstacles but the department haven’t heard any bad news linked to this initiative,” he said.

Minnaar said JMPD police officers work on shifts and said that the number of vehicles they use is determined by how big an area is.

Minnaar said the delivery of services has improved very well since the inception of this initiative.
