‘Ek is gatvol ook’ – Makhura

Baby Luke laid to rest.

Luke Tibbetts was hit by a stray bullet on August 2, he lost his life after being on life support for a week.

His funeral service was held at the Perfecting Church on Saturday.

Candice Tibbetts offered the congregation a glimpse into her son’s life, sharing her anger at the incident.

“My job was to heal scrapped knees and not to stop stray bullets. My God hasn’t failed me but the justice and society has. I enjoyed him. I just want to hold my two little boys again.,” said Candice.

The service was attended by Gauteng premier David Makhura, he addressed the mourners where he questioned if government doing enough.

“Ek is gatvol ook. Government and citizens need to do more to protect children,”said Makhura.

Makhura said that no bail should be given to the suspect.

“These children can’t die in vain,” said Makhura.

Bernice Krope, a family member spoke out against the people that have allegedly said that people of Westbury are animals.

“I am not an animal,” said Krope.

Krope urged residents not to be pointing fingers on who is to be blamed.

“Those families are also grieving. Stop gossiping and let’s put a stop to this together,” said Krope.
