The Eldrado Park Police Station commander arrested a youth desk volunteer on Wednesday for theft of money.
The complainant who is from the community alleged that she paid R60 to the suspect for police clearance.
The suspect took the money but never gave the complainant a receipt.
He only took her fingerprints and advised her to take the fingerprints to SAPS National Office if she wishes so.
“In terms of police regulations, only our finance department has the authority to receive payments and issue receipts,” Captain Phillemon Khorombis said.
The suspect was performing charge office duties as a volunteer when this incident took place.
The suspect is detained at the Eldorado Park police holding cells.
He will appear in court as soon as possible.
Investigation is continuing.
